Devon's answers to a few questions about working with the District:
What is an interesting fact you’ve learned since working at the District?

An interesting fact about yellowjackets is that there are a few different species in San Mateo County. The most common type of yellowjacket we respond to is a species that usually builds its nest underground, but there are other species that build aerial nests (nests that are hanging from trees, eaves, etc.). We find yellowjacket nests in a variety of places. One of the most interesting places was an aerial nest that had been built on and around someone’s security camera, completely encasing it inside.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is helping residents with rodent issues and being able to help find where rodents are getting into the home/property. It is satisfying to know we helped exclude rodents from entering buildings, since rodents can cause a lot of damage to a home.
Where is your favorite place in San Mateo County?
There are lots of great areas of San Mateo County. One of my favorite spots would have to be the Crystal Springs Reservoir near the dam and Sawyer Camp Trail. It’s a really nice view, and it’s fun to hike and explore that area.

Your technician, Devon, was incredible. He spotted an additional nest of a different species of yellow jackets in a tree as well as a vacated nest. He is very kind, answered all of our questions, gave us an education.Resident who requested help with yellowjackets
